Challenge Program

STEM - Grades 2-5

The academic areas which are the focus of Arbor View’s STEM Challenge include Science,Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  High-performing students in grades 2-5 are identified as needing more rigorous STEM learning opportunities than offered in the regular classroom.  Learning targets and objectives are aligned with the Common Core and College and Career Ready standards, at an advanced grade level.  Each small grade level group meets with Mrs. Andacht for approximately three hours each week.

Activities that STEM students participate in may include: Hands-On Equations, Algebra, Robotics, Architecture, Intro to Computer Programming, Structural Engineering, Research, Labs and Experiments, and Continental Math League contests.  More detailed information on grade level projects can be found in our grade level links, photo albums and newsletter links.

LAH Grades 2, 3, 4/5

Challenge LA/Humanities is offered for children in grades 2-5 who need a more advanced curriculum in these areas to thrive academically.  Learning objectives are aligned with the Common Core learning objectives, at a higher grade level.  Children are identified by an extensive review of their test data and classroom performance.  Each small grade level group meets with Mrs. Andacht for approximately three hours per week.

Activities and projects include novel studies, poetry, research, Socratic Method, Shakespeare, Introduction to Latin, Greek and Latin roots, Mythology, history and cultural studies, presentation skills, and more.  Speaking & Listening/Performance common core is also covered with each grade level.
